The Legal Realities of Project Scheduling

Design professionals serve an integral role in project scheduling, delay analysis, and payment requisitions. The design professional’s impact is felt early on in the creation of the design documents up to and through construction administration. We will address design professionals’ roles and responsibilities in project scheduling, establish mechanisms for avoiding and addressing contractor delay claims, and discuss evaluation of payment requisitions in the context of the project schedule and delay claims.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will explore provisions that should be included in the project specifications and contractor general conditions with regard to project scheduling.
  • Participants will discuss how design professionals can contribute or cause contractor delay claims.
  • Participants will walk through a design professional’s role in processing payment requisitions and contractor delay claims.
  • Participants will identify traditional excusable delays and compensable claims.
  • Participants will address the evaluation of payment requisitions and what affect the project schedule and delay claims have in that evaluation. 1PDH
